World Travel Days – Argentina

Air travel is pretty expensive these days – not to mention how difficult it can be to go on a trip with a child. In an effort to break the daily monotony, I decided that every couple of weeks we would “travel” to a different country, predominantly picked by my child. Each day involves a special activity, snack and dinner, and a brief discussion about a local language. You can find a list of World Travel Days here.

Activities

The activity for Argentina Day was tough! Eventually, I decided to use the fact that Argentina is home to many armadillos and do a little armadillo craft that I found over at Artsy Craftsy Mom. I made it even more simple by using small torn bits of tissue paper instead of cutting out scales.

We also did a flag puzzle – take a look at previous travel days for an example. You’ll find the printout below to make your own!

Language

For Argentina, I went with the predominant language, the Castellano dialect of Spanish. Which, when it comes to our chosen phrases, is exactly the same as “regular” Spanish. Oh well!

Food

Another fun raw version of a snack (perfect for summer!) was found in the form of raw alfajores. They were very tasty, although probably not too much like the real thing — especially since I used sunflower seeds instead of cashews.

Dinner went off wonderfully! We had Argentinian empañadas (the lentil ones) and they were super tasty. And we made some chimichurri sauce to go with it!

And that was Argentina Day! That’s our fifth “World Travel Day” – you can find more by clicking the link in the menu above.
